Create Your Very Own Coat of Arms!
A coat of arms is a colourful design painted on a shield. It can belong to a person, a family, a village, a town, or even a whole country! Each picture or symbol on it stands for something important or linked to the person or place.
Could you design one for Goadby Marwood? Think about things associated with the village. It could be our church, a knight on a horse like George Villiers, a loom like the one that Edmund Cartwright invented, or just things like horses, flowers and trees. Whatever Goadby Marwood makes you think of!

Colour the Picture of Edmund Cartwright!
Reverend Edmund Cartwright was a clever man who lived a long time ago in Goadby Marwood. At first, he worked as a local vicar and wrote poems, but he also loved thinking of new ideas. One day he visited a cloth factory and saw machines that could turn cotton into thread. This made him wonder if he could build a machine to weave cloth faster too! So he worked hard and invented the first “power loom”, a special machine that could help make cloth much quicker than people could by hand.
Even though Edmund’s first power loom wasn’t perfect, it helped other inventors make even better ones later. This invention changed how cloth was made and led to the building of huge factories where fabric could be woven much faster than before. Because of his ideas, people could eventually make clothes more quickly and affordably, and Edmund Cartwright became an important part of history!

Colour the Picture of George Villiers!
George Villiers, the First Duke of Buckingham, grew up at Goadby Hall. He was an important man who lived in England over 400 years ago. He started out as an ordinary person, but he became very close friends with King James I and later helped his son, King Charles I.
Because the kings liked him so much, George was given fancy titles, lots of money, and became one of the most powerful people in the country. He helped the kings make big choices about wars and the government, though not everyone thought he did a good job. Some people even blamed him when things went wrong.
George Villiers was known for being handsome, confident, and wearing stylish clothes. His life ended sadly when someone who didn’t like him killed him, but his story shows how friendship with a king could change someone’s life completely.
