Environmental Policy

Purpose

Friend of Goadby Marwood Village Hall (FoGMVH) trustees recognise that our activities, and those of our users, may impact the environment.  We aim to comply with environmental laws, and seek to promote sound environmental practices in our activities.

Scope

Within the constraints imposed on Goadby Marwood Village Hall as a grade II listed building, our aim is to ensure compliance with relevant regulatory requirements, promote awareness of our environmental policy to hall users and volunteers, minimise waste through reuse and recycling, minimise energy and water consumption and promote the efficient use of resources. We will ensure that environmental priorities are integrated into the decisions we take on all our activities as follows:

1. Energy Efficiency
FoGMVH aims to use the minimum quantity of energy possible in accordance with the safe and efficient operation of our heating, lighting, and equipment. We will, from time to time, review our energy sources, appliances and energy efficiency and will, as far as is practicable, monitor consumption and eliminate excessive or unnecessary use with a view to minimising the environmental impact. We will communicate to hirers the means by which energy may be conserved, e.g. closing doors and switching off unnecessary lighting.

 2. Waste & Recycling

FoGMVH will seek to avoid waste and encourage the appropriate conservation, re-use and recycling of resources. We will re-use and recycle materials as far as possible and, if this is impractical, will dispose of materials by a means that will have the least impact on the environment and which conforms to statutory requirements. We will encourage users and volunteers to minimise waste, including the provision of appropriate facilities for recycling materials such as glass, tins and paper.

 â€‹

3. Water Conservation

FoGMVH aims to use the minimum quantities of water possible in accordance with our activities and ensure that the water we use is both supplied and disposed of in a way that meets statutory requirements as a minimum. We will reduce leakage and eliminate excessive or unnecessary use. We will communicate to users, staff and volunteers the need to conserve water e.g. turning taps off after use.

4. Pollution

FoGMVH aims to minimise all forms of pollution, using biodegradable chemicals where possible. Hirers of the Village Hall will be encouraged to avoid creating noise pollution, especially at night.

5. Building Works

We will ensure that the potential environmental impact of any building projects will be assessed and minimised. This will include, where possible, methods of construction which make best use of resources; designs which result in low maintenance and high energy efficiency and, where practicable, the use of building materials from sustainable sources. We will encourage contractors to conserve energy and minimise waste.

This policy will be reviewed annually.
